The Fulltime RV Family in front of "The Rig"

We are the Sorenti-Burns family.  Two self employed parent in our mid 40’s working in a mobile work environment who love to travel and explore new places.  We are curious folk who believe that travel is the best education of all. We plan to home school our two boys together during this time away.

Jen has been working in the satellite business for over 20+ years and wants to connect with and introduce her family to all her friends/customers throughout the US and Canada. She has many appointments set up across the two countries as we travel west toward the Pacific. Jen is the navigator of the journey (code name Magellan) and in charge of site logistics. Jen is the idea person, chief explorer and in charge of budgeting. Jen is a history buff, mostly social and economic history, who loves to visit historical sites and museums especially, former President’s homes.

Ralph left the corporate world of medical testing and big pharmacy sales management and dove into Internet business two years ago and has never looked back.  He’s looking for new ideas, experiences and inspirations as well as meeting with his business partners as we cross the country. The west coast is also teeming with business opportunities for Ralph’s company so we will be spending almost two months in Northern California at the end of this year.  Ralph is the driver and chief of RV operations ( code name Garmin).  Ralph is in charge of the technical details, making all systems work (and of holding Jen back when her ideas get too ambitious). Ralph is also a history buff especially loving to visit endless battlefields sites. Don’t drive too close behind him as he will be apt to pull over and read EVERY placard on the road leading up to a historical monument or battlefield.

Sons Alex (10) and Eli (8) have just finished 4th grade and 3rd grade and are veteran travelers. They are excited about seeing all the 50 states and parts of Canada. Both boys have important tasks.

Alex is our extremely exuberant and inventive head of security (Code name Good wrench or Wrench). Alex is responsible for all systems outside the RV, including set up and take down of the RV at each site (set up of water, electrical, cable and parking assistance).

Eli is our creative and thoughtful head of Expense tracking and meal planning.  Eli  who truly enjoys math and writing, plans to cook a different type of pancake in each state and territory ( hence his code name of Pancake).

They do feel the pang of missing their family and friends in our native Cape Cod.  We all feel that pang of wishing we could share our adventures with our loved ones and so came up with the idea of this blog. Alex and Eli are quite used to being dragged to historical sites. Alex enjoys military history, basically likes to watch old Army movies.   Eli is more interested in US  economic history…meaning he loved The Hershey museum ( CANDY!!)  and the story of how Milton Hershey built a great candy empire ( MORE CANDY!!)

In 2009, We had started to think about building an attached garage but chucked that idea and chose instead to buy our fifth wheel, diesel Chevy 2500 and travel cross country.  We rented our home to help cover the costs of travel. We are looking forward to trading in rush of every day life chores, sports, school and other activities for a full time RV life on the road of work, travel and homeschooling.

Thanks Jane – you must be the ones bringing the good luck (so far ) to the B’s! All the way to the Cup baby! Keep it coming and “Like” us! xoxoxo

I owe you guys a great night! Until you stopped by on your RV trip and told this old Bruins fan in upstate New York that the Stanley Cup was on network TV, I was wearing my index finger raw hitting the refresh button on nhl.com. It was great to WATCH the B’s win it instead of reading about it the next day. Hope you are not too wet from the Falls.

    • Ralph says:

Bob – we are so happy you didn’t run that finger raw on NHL.com – after all, you need it for surgery! 🙂

Thanks so much for the AWESOME night at your place. Like your kids, our guys went to sleep with contended, (albeit complety exhausted – thanks to the bouncy house addition) smiles to have reconnected with their good friends from CCA.

What a magical home you have – we consider ourselves so fortunate to have shared it with you for a night. Thanks so much for your hospitality and generosity. Warmest regards.

This is great guys – I look forward to following your adventures and reading your stories. I love what you are doing. Don’t miss the signs for Wall Drug; I’m sure it will be difficult. If you hit the Fort Bragg area in Northern California be sure to visit MacKerricker State Park – I used to be a ranger there! Carpe diem!

    • Ralph says:

Kimberly – we will be sure to hit MacKerricker State Park on our travels (should be late September which should be a beautiful time to see it) and we are lookin forward to the hot donuts at Wall Drug! Thanks for reading and take good care!

Hi Guys, its “Aunti Pam” –
So excited for you! Most people only dream to do what you are doing. So glad you took the leap. Dave and I both feel this country has so much beauty and history you can spend a life time trying to take it all in. I hope you will add me to your blog, I told Sandi it will be fun to follow you around & get your views on everything. Our favorites are the mid-western states and upper CA. Do you plan to go to Calgary & see the Stampede? That would be such fun! Just for thought – we were out there and were going to meet cousins in Montana (they were coming down from Canada) it was the second week in Sept. They could not get through as the road was closed for the “winter” on Sept. 10th. …snow comes early out there! We are just so happy for you. How many books have you read so far? I heard you have a “few” with you. Are the boys enjoying their new “teachers”? Can be a little hard when they “can’t go home & complain to Mom”. Your send off sounded so wonderful & loving, so many wonderful people around you! Better go, stay safe & enjoy. Look forward to the next chapter.

    • Jen says:

Hi Auntie Pam and Dave, Thanks for the tips on Calgary. Yikes! We will be in Montana in August so hope we will be ok and not get snow! Yes…we have packed tons of books..so many that we forgot to pack chairs for outside in our storage area! We are not ‘teaching’ yet as we gave the boys off from any formal schooling stuff, other than reading and family math type stuff, till August. You just need to check the blog, we don’t have to add you in or anything, just check the web site like you did today. We love to hear from you. Big hug to you both, Jen

    • Jen says:

Hi Bob, So great to hear from you. We miss you you too! We did watch that movie RV, what a riot.
We remember what a World War II buff you are and hope to get some 20th century history tidbits in our blog especially when we visit Pearl Harbor in early December. Hope to hear from you again and thanks for following us. Big hug, Jen

  7. Nettie says:

    Hi Everyone,

I wanted to tell you some things that happened this week with Baby David. First we were in Shaw’s doing some grocery shopping and he saw a Bruins balloon. He commented …”yook Nennie balloon.” I asked him what was on the balloon and p; promptly raised his arms and said “BEEEE WEW WIN!” Then on day two we saw a truck, much like yours, pulling a camper, much like yours, and David said “That Alex?”. He so reminds me of you Alex with his un-ending energy, and of you Eli with his ability to never forget.

We miss you guys! It sounds like you are getting a real education on living on the road.

    Travel Safe…We Love You!

    Nettie

    • Jen says:

hi Nettie, That David is adorable! We went to the hockey hall of fame but honestly have not spent any time doing tourist atttractions in Toronto as we have so many friends up here that we don’t get to see nearly enough. So we are learning about the wonders ( I kid you not!) of Canadian grocery stores and the different foods they have here. It is awesome! They have labeled their milk differently and everything is in English and French and just the presentation is different… It was fun to go in the store with the boys and shop for food. We had a blast with Sandy’s family too but….More later when we do another post on the blog..stay tuned…we love reading your posts!! Love ya…Jen

    Hi Guys!

Bill and I are stalking you on line. We spent Sunday AM watching Alex and Eli show us how to gas up and level.
Keep the video’s coming. It doesn’t make us miss you so much when we can see you. You covered a lot of ground in a week.

Jen I took your little bag you gave me with the gum in it on a buyer tour yesterday for good luck….moved the buyer up from 500 to 800+. And they treated me to lunch instead of me buying for a change…fun couple, good people to know!

    HAPPY FATHER’S DAY Ralph!

Big Hug for everyone… Love you guys!

PS…going down to the Landfall to get Dad a big Lobster Savanna…stuffed lobster it’s the best.

    • Jen says:

Hi Jane and Bill…. I miss seeing you for coffee on Wednesdays! Hey we discovered ketchup potato chips and they scream your name everytime time I eat them!!) up here in lovely Canada..things may never be the same!! I love how Canadian food is package differently and they have different brands than us. It is really fascinating. Everyone here has been super nice to us! Keep stalking us on our blog…we miss you all. Love ya Jen
