There is a big rivalry between Jamestown and Plymouth!

While RVing in Jamestown, Virginia, I learned something interesting about American history that I never learned in school.

There is a huge rivalry between the two colonies!

RVing in Jamestown, Virginia: Shocking News!

Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in 1607. It was named after King James 1 of England.   In 1619 the first representative government meeting in America was held there. In 1676, the settlement burned down but they already moved the government to a
more central location called Middle Plantation about 20 miles away.

Middle Plantation is now known as Williamsburg – you can read my blog post on RVing in Williamsburg, Virginia too if you want more information.

How The Pilgrims Hosed Jamestown

Plimouth Plantation gets all the credit  for being the first continuous English settlement in America (and also because the Pilgrims invented Thanksgiving). But I think Jamestown should get a lot of the credit too!

The Pilgrims were the first colonists to settle in New England but the colonists of Jamestown were the first permanent English settlers to set up a real colony in America! People almost deserted the town because of rough winters but someone forced the settlers to stay.

John Smith thought Jamestown would be a great city, but even though it never stayed as a permanent colony, the place was the root of our country. News of its creation in England encouraged more people to come and establish colonies in North America.

I learned that John Smith also gave New England its name! If your ancestors lived here, you could be related to one of them.

One of my ancestors was actually a Pilgrim who came over on the Mayflower!

Why I Went RVing to Jamestown, Virgina

My mom brought me here because one of my school books talks about Jamestown a lot. This school book is very interesting. The book is
called Making Thirteen Colonies: 1600-1740 A History of US Book 2. I would recommend this book to every homeschooling family or just if you want to learn more about American History.

The Jamestown  National Park is left almost entirely in its natural state. It wasn’t re-created like Plimouth Plantation.  The
archeologists preserved the artifacts, and made a few log buildings but it basically is just an outline of where  the houses and the fort
were located.

Unfortunately, the town was burned down so you gotta give the archeologists some credit for figuring out where everything was.

Jamestown was well done but in my opinion, RVing in Williamsburg in my opinion was better since they had actors telling you what life was like back then. We didn’t have time to visit the re-created ships but I am sure my parents will drag us back here when we are older for an updated history lesson!

Our Wicked Cool Trip RVing to Williamsburg, Virginia https://fulltimervfamily.com/rving-to-williamsburg-virginia/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/rving-to-williamsburg-virginia/#comments Tue, 29 May 2012 06:51:33 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=2245 rving to williamsburg virginia stockades

I think my mom and dad would have liked to take this stockade home from Williamsburg for me and my brother…thankfully, it won’t fit in the RV!

RVing to Willamsburg, Virginia was very interesting and it was pretty fun too.

We saw a re-enactment of  George Washington giving his farewell speech as he was leaving the presidency.

I got to see actors portraying George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. That was cool because I got to stand next to them while they spoke!

rving in williamsburg virginia

That’s me standing between Thomas Jefferson (on stage) and George Washington (to my right)

They even answered our questions after they spoke to the crowd.

My mom (the Presidential nut) asked a lot of questions.

It was raining lightly and  Thomas Jefferson wanted to leave ( he was afraid of becoming one of Ben Franklin’s experiments! )  but George Washington said he wanted to stay and talk to us as he had never been accused of being a ‘fair weather Patriot!”

My mom almost fainted with delight he said that.

The Old Capital Building in Williamsburg

We also toured the old Capitol building. I saw a replica of the Bill of Rights. I also saw the real chair that the leader of the House of Burgesses sat on.

the house of burgesses in williamsburg

The House of Burgesses in Williamsburg, Virginia

This is a valuable article since the Capitol building was burned down.

Benedict Arnold Was There Too

There was a re-enactment containing Benedict Arnold too. He said that the citizens of Williamsburg should surrender to him since the British gave them what they wanted (no taxes).

benedict arnold williamsburg we saw rving

Benedict Arnold came in on horseback and started doing a big speech!

Fortunately the colonials, (and we American citizens in the audience) all rejected that idea by booing him! The people of Williamsburg didn’t give in.

We stayed American.

The Civil War Week in Williamsburg

While we were there, it was also the 150th anniversary of the Civil War battle for Williamsburg. We saw some Confederate and Union
soldiers fire muskets and cannons! They also paraded around a fenced off area.

civil war guns

These are the guns the Civil War guys used

There was also a Civil War Hospital too, but that made me feel weird so we left.

My Dad loved it though, he’s nuts.

The Williamsburg, Virginia Gardens…

We also saw two beautiful gardens. One of the gardens was a flower garden, it had beautiful flowers in it. The other was a vegetable
garden. It had ton of green vegetables.

gardens in williamsburg virginia

One of the gardens in Williamsburg…although Busch Gardens was MY favorite garden!

We didn’t do all the things at Williamsburg ( you need three days for that!) but we ate at  Shield’s tavern, and saw a working  blacksmith
and cobbler’s shop. I would highly recommend a trip to RVing to Williamsburg.

There is so much to do RVing in Williamsburg, Virgina. Plus, Yorktown, Jamestown and Busch Gardens are all only 20 minutes away.

Pretty Lucky to Go RVing in Virginia

I consider myself pretty lucky to have gone RVing all the way to Williamsburg, Virgina…so lucky, I found a four leaf clover!!!

I am pretty lucky to see Williamsburg RVing, so lucky I found this 4 leaf clover!

What You Must See RVing in Philadelphia https://fulltimervfamily.com/what-you-must-see-rving-in-philadelphia/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/what-you-must-see-rving-in-philadelphia/#comments Tue, 15 May 2012 17:44:56 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=2133 RVing in Philadelphia we saw lots of things.

Most of the things we saw there were about the American Revolution which my brother Alex is learning about  for fifth grade…so I picked up some tips for next year!

eli rving with ben and tom

This is me sitting on Ben Franklins lap...I saw his toilet too!

It was really cool to see some of the same things that I have heard my parents talking about all these years.

That is RVing full time road-schooling at its finest!!

RVing in Philadelphia

When we got to Philadelphia, we saw Independence Hall where our founding fathers debated  independence from Great Britain and the Declaration of Independence.

RVing to see Independence Hall - yeah! Independence!

In Philadelphia, they also signed the Constitution.

We also saw the Declaration House…it kind of a funny looking house.

rving-to-declaration-house

Declaration House is kind of a half house...you see strange things RVing full time for sure!

That was the house that Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote it almost completely by himself (with bit of help from Benjamin Franklin and John Adams).

As someone who has to write blog posts about RVing full time, writing a whole Declaration is a lot of work. Jefferson was smart, he had a soft voice
but could write really well.

We also saw The Liberty Bell too…

My brother Alex and I saw the Liberty Bell RVing

Also, when we were in Philadelphia full time RVing, I went to see Carpenters Hall.

The first Continental Congress was held there in 1774. I thought my mom was going to cry when she first went in and saw where it all began.

Mom was crying when she took this picture!

She loves revolutionary history.

If you ever go to Philadelphia full time RVing, make sure you go see Betsy Ross’s house too.

Betsy Ross was the person who made the first American flag and she had a contract with the first US government to make ammunition for the Patriot troops.

She ran her business out of her basement, just like my mom.

mom rving with lawrence welk

This wasn't in Philadelphia RVing but it was in North Dakota at Lawrence Welk's house in North Dakota....she dragged us there too.

She was a very smart business woman, just like my mom!

I also saw where Ben Franklin lived. You could almost feel his ghost directing us to the library, the post office, the fire stations…all the institutions he created that we still enjoy today!

RVing in Philadelphia…Don’t Forget The Food!

My favorite part of visiting Philadelphia was when I ate a Philly Cheese Steak Sub with sweet peppers. It was delicious!

The cheese and juicy steak melted in my mouth.

Philadelphia was a blast!

Building Sandcastles While Fulltime RVing https://fulltimervfamily.com/building-sandcastles-while-fulltime-rving/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/building-sandcastles-while-fulltime-rving/#comments Thu, 19 Jan 2012 00:45:16 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=1918 alex and eli sandcastles rving

Our very cool sandcastle RVing in San Francisco!

Have you ever gone to a sandcastle competition?

Not at a camp, but with adults who are architects and in San Francisco?

Well we have! And we did it our first weekend in San Francisco full time RVing when we got there.

It was awesome! We love San Francisco because there is so much cool stuff that goes on here.

We sometimes like it better than home although we do miss home. But building giant sandcastles makes it hard to miss home sometimes.

Making Giant Sandcastles When RVing Full Time

A sandcastle competition is a competition about sandcastles. The goal is for you and your teammates to work together to try to build the best sandcastle, while raising money for a good cause and being creative.

San Francisco schools sponsored the competition so kids can be creative. Leap is the organization that made it possible.

Leap raises money for schools so they can have art classes, which kids don’t have because the politicians cut out money for it…that’s what my Mom and Dad say.

That doesn’t make any sense to me…how about you?

Anyway, you can see all the pictures of the sandcastle contest here.

For our full time Rving sandcastle, we made an Angry Bird volcano with pigs coming out of the top and all the birds around it. It took us all day to make it, but we finally completed it right as the buzzer sounded.

Even better, we got a trophy for “Best Feelgood Sandcastle”.  Here is the picture of our sandcastle here. It was huge!

How To Build A Sandcastle When RVing

alex eli and cobalt sandcastles rving

Alex, Eli and Cobalt celebrating the masterpeice!

You might ask how we built this giant sandcastle? It was because we worked on a team.

First we put water and sand on top of each other. Then we stomped on it until it was compacted into a hard sand mountain. Then we  worked on the details like the nests, pigs, and birds.

It was our first experience in California and we loved it. We had a lot of fun with our cousin Cobalt, as well as with all the other people we made the sandcastle with.

This is just some of the fun kinds of things you can do while RVing while helping a good cause at the same time.

Please join us in helping Bay Area kids and “Like” this post on Facebook (you can just click the “Like” button to the left by the way, its really easy 🙂 ), so we can all help support Leap!

Thank you!

The Bad Things When Full Time RVing https://fulltimervfamily.com/the-bad-things-when-full-time-rving/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/the-bad-things-when-full-time-rving/#comments Sun, 09 Oct 2011 16:51:19 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=1789 rving full time in south dakota

Most of the time you have a lot of fun RVing full time (like here in South Dakota), but sometimes there are bad things too

If you are RVing full time cross country, you may want to think about some bad things, but some of these problems are fixed by money. I will tell you here what those bad things are about living in an RV full time.

1. Hitting Stuff in Your Full Time RV

Some times, if you are not careful, you can smash up the RV. In our case, we crashed into a gas tank.

That happened to us in Billings, Montana. My Dad was going forward and the rear of it smashed the gas tank. Then we had to pay the man who owned the store and gas station. That was no fun.

2. RVing Full Time Can Be Expensive

Lots of times, if you are not careful, money can be a problem, especially when paying for gas. Some times gas costs over $150 to fill up the gas tank and you use gas a lot!

Our truck uses diesel and that is even more expensive.

Campgrounds can cost a lot too. Some cost 50 dollars + a day. So if you are full time RVing, save your money!

3. Stuff Breaks in an RV

If something breaks in your RV that is a problem. One time our awning broke in a wind storm in Wisconsin, so we got another person to fix it but it cost money. It cost over five hundred dollars to fix it.

Our insurance covered most of it but we had to pay some money anyway, which really stunk!

So my Mom and Dad recommend if you go RVing full time, make sure you get insurance for your RV.

So RVing is lots of fun for sure, and I really like it a lot, so much I may actually like it more than being at home at times. But if you are thinking about going cross country in an RV, its important for you to know that there are bad things that happen too.

Please try to make the best of these problems and just deal with them as best as you can.

Please Share this with your friends on Facebook – there is a button on the left of this post you can do that with. Your friends may want to know about what bad stuff can happen when RVing full time too!

If you share this post with them, then they will know too!

How To Make Friends While Full Time RVing https://fulltimervfamily.com/how-to-make-friends-while-full-time-rving/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/how-to-make-friends-while-full-time-rving/#comments Mon, 03 Oct 2011 06:44:09 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=1739 rv friends 9

Friends we made RVing full time in Iowa at a museum. It was easy!

Some people think that when you are RVing full time that it’s hard to make friends. We used to think that too, but now we don’t.

As a kid, you may miss your friends at home too. But to solve the problem, all you need to do is just write postcards, e-mail, Skype or call your friends. When you do that, it makes it a lot easier when full time RVing.

So for all those kids who are worried when they go live in an RV full time, that they might be lonely or they may not be able to make friends, me and my brother Alex put this list together to show you that it is actually easy to make friends when RVing full time.

1. Go to Where Other Kids Are

Usually, you can find friends in swimming pools and fun places at the RV parks.

I would recommend KOAs as the funnest campgrounds and best places to meet kids.

They have pools, playgrounds and other stuff. Although my mom and dad say they are more expensive, it makes it easier for us to make full time RV friends.

rv friends 2

Me, Alex and Nick at the KOA in Springfield, IL in the pool!

2. Don’t Be Shy

Please don’t be shy! The butterflies won’t  fly if you don’t make friends (that means that you will be lonely if you don’t at least try).

But always be yourself! If that means being a little bit goofy, then that’s OK. But don’t try too hard, just be you.

One time in Jackson Hole there were kids playing soccer. We asked them if we could play with them and they said yes.

Sometimes all you have to do is ask the other kids to play and they will say yes!

So be brave and be friendly.

rv friends 3

3. Tips if You Are Shy

If you are extremely shy and you have a brother then ask him to ask the other kids to play for you. If you don’t have a sibling, then just wait for them to come as a last option.

But the best thing to do is just go over and start playing. You don’t even have to ask them sometimes!

Plus, with kids in RV parks, they all miss their friends like you so don’t worry, they are missing their friends and want to make new ones too.

rv friends 8

4. Share

After you make the acquaintance, make sure to be kind and share things with them. If there are people that want to play, let them play!

More acquaintances for you and more friends!

rv friends

5. Be Mindful of the Little Kids

If there are little kids, make sure to include them too. Also, if your playing a game, make sure not to always win. Do your best, but don’t make it like you have to win everything.

However, if you are playing for a team of kids and its a really competitive game, its ok if you play your best and try to win.

rv friends alex eli

6. Always Say Goodbye

When you are leaving the place you met your friends try to see them again and remember to say bye. If you can get your mom and dad to exchange their emails or if they live close to you, their addresses so you can see them again.

We met some kids in Idaho that actually live only 30 miles from us back home! I can’t wait to see them when we get home.

rv friends

Alex and Spencer in Great Falls Idaho. Spencer and his sister Ella only live 30 miles from us at home!

rv friends eli

So in conclusion, it is easy to make friends when you are full time RVing. If you are worried about being lonely, then don’t be. We were at first when we went in our RV full time, but we have met so many good friends, now we no longer worry about it at all.

So as long as you take the first step, you will be fine. Plus meeting new friends makes your full time RV trip a lot more fun!

Please “Share” this post with your friends on Facebook by clicking the “Share” button to the left – so other kids who want to RV full time can learn what we have learned!

And as always, please comment on our blog below as well. Alex and I interested to see if you have any tips on how to make friends we may have missed!

Thank you!

How To Get Killer Blog Post Ideas…Even If You’re Not RVing Full Time https://fulltimervfamily.com/how-to-get-killer-blog-post-ideas-even-if-youre-not-rving-full-time/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/how-to-get-killer-blog-post-ideas-even-if-youre-not-rving-full-time/#comments Sat, 27 Aug 2011 19:48:57 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=1518 The.Rolling.StonesI heard that one of the Rolling Stones guys got the idea for one of their most famous songs when he was sleeping. He woke up in the middle of the night and recorded the song into a tape recorder (this is before iPhones) and the next morning he woke up and “Satisfaction” was on the tape!

I wish that would happen to me because I would like to be a rock star someday…

Sometimes ideas for blog posts just pop into my head like the Rolling Stones guy.

But usually I have a hard time thinking of ideas for blog posts.

So I figured if I had this problem, then other people might have this problem too.

So I decided to write this blog post about how to think of ideas for blog posts, even though it has nothing to do with RVing full time!

Actually, that could be tip #1 below (think of stuff that frustrates you and write about it on your blog)!

The good thing about traveling in an RV full time is you see lots of different things most days so you get good ideas for blog posts. But I’m not going to include that idea because everyone isn’t RVing full time like me.

So here are some ideas on how to think of good ideas to blog about:

1. Go to Sports Games, Attractions and Different Places

When you go to sports games and attractions you get a break, but you also get blog post ideas too. My family and I have done a few blog posts on sports games and attractions. For each one we got great ideas for different blog posts.

Chris Brogan says that you should always be looking for ideas for blog posts and writing interesting stuff down to blog about. This is good advice. I do this when we are traveling in our RV full time to remind me what to write about.

For instance, I have rally monkey collection and went to a Cardinals game:

rally monkey

Me and rally monkey #2 in Chicago!

I wrote a post on what this has to do with RVing.

Because we’re RVing full time, lots of people want to know about what we are doing. So that makes it a little bit easier to think of stuff to blog about. I still use Chris’ technique to help me remember stuff though.

But say you’re have a blog on cooking. And at the game you taste new foods that could inspire you to write a blog post on. Or maybe you could write a post about on something that happened at the attraction and how it relates to your cooking website. I did that on this blog post.

2. Make a Part 2 of Your Most Popular Blog Post

A super easy way to write a blog post is write part 2 of your most popular blog post, like “How to Write Blog Posts When RVing Full Time, Part 2” for example.

I was going to write that…but I decided to write this one instead.

I still might write that one too 🙂

3. Expand One of Your “How-To’s”

I got the idea for this blog post because on the #1 step of my other blog post, I talked about how to think of ideas for blog posts but didn’t go into that much detail. But I thought it would be a good idea to expand on it:

think_of_a_good_idea

Use one of your "how to's" for another post!

Plus it seems like this is a very popular topic a lot of people are worried about, so I thought it would be helpful.

4. Find, Then Answer a Popular Question

This one I learned from Pat Flynn’s and its a little bit sneaky 🙂

First go to Wordtracker, then enter in your subject. I entered in “blogging” and here is what came up:

wordtracker_blogging

Just enter your blog subject in and they give you the most popular questions!

It came up with an idea for a blog post. This one!

I don’t know how they do it, but they tell you the most popular questions people are asking about your subject.

Its always a good idea to write about things people are interested in, so this technique helps do that. If you dont write anythng people are interested in then nobody reads your blog!

I did this for the most popular blog post we’ve had on the blog (until my last one), on what’s the monthly cost of RVing full time. That was the second most asked question for our blog area.

Here is the sneaky part though...

After you enter one word they don’t let you do a second one UNLESS you “clear your cookies”.

I thought cookies were something you eat, but on the internet they are little spies.

So all you do to clear them is go to your “Tools” and then erase them:

cookie_removal

Go to "Tools, then "Options", then "Privacy" then "Show Cookies" and erase them! Then click the return button on your computer.

When you do this, you can search for as many words as you want!

5. Read Other Bloggers

Even though I’m 9 years old, I like to read other blogs for good ideas. Some of my favorites are:

Brian Clark is a writer I would like to be like. I read his blog posts on headlines and on how to write blog posts, they both gave me alot of ideas.

Pretty much anything at copyblogger will help you with ideas for blog posts.

Darren Rowse is another writer I would like to be more like. He is one of my favorite bloggers because his blog teaches you all kinds of stuff on how to blog. When I read his blog, it gives me good ideas.

Alot of other bloggers think he is the expert of all bloggers. I read his starting your first blog post when I first started and it helped me think of ideas for blog posts as well as how to write them.

Chris Brogan writes about things that come into his mind and I like that. If you are stuck for a good blog post, read his post on writing a book.  Also, he does a lot in a day and this is inspiring for me because I have a lot to do every day too.

One of his best blog posts that you can use to get ideas is 100 Blog Posts I Hope You Write. You can definitely find a good blog post ideas there! Another one is is 20 Blog Topics to Ge You Unstuck. Chris Brogan has tons of ideas to get you to think of blog posts!

Pat Flynn is a newer blogger and a really good blogger too. He tells how he makes money on the internet and it is inspiring for me to read. I used to want to work for Google, but reading about Pat, I think I’d like to make money online or myself instead.

His blog is really good because he tells you exactly how much money he makes. I did the same thing with my post h, but in the reverse!

I have other favorite bloggers, but I think I’ll do all of them in another blog post!:-)

6. Meditate to Get Ideas In Your Head

Meditating is also a good way to think of blog post ideas. I do this even when I’m not trying to think of blog post ideas:

meditating

Me meditating in the back of our truck

Think of one thought, this is how you meditate. Go to a quiet spot and close your eyes if you want, and focus on that thought.

When you meditate, blog post ideas start to pop into your head!

7. Video Games

Video games are the relaxation part of writing a blogpost, also you can get an idea from that! Really it relaxes your mind.

For example, right now Ive been writing this blog post for over an hour and I am really tired!

So I am going to go play Plants versus Zombies to relax my mind…Ill be back soon.

8. Read Books Not Related To Your Blog

We often listen to Brian Clark and Robert Bruce on the Internet Marketing for Smart People podcast in our truck on the our way to RVing sites. In one show, Brian Clark says to get good ideas for blog posts, you should read books outside your area of interest.

I agree with Brian.

For me, Ive been reading 39 Clues by Rick Riordan recently.

Some of my other favorite authors are: Mary Pope Osborne, Donald J. Sobol, JK Rowling and Mark Twain. Sometimes I listen to these books on tape and some I read.

These books may not always give me ideas for blog posts every time, but they help me clear my mind to write better.

9. Drink A Root Beer

Sometimes, when I’m really stuck for a good blog post, I ask my mom and dad for a root beer. For some reason,  it helps me think of stuff to write about. It might be the sugar or the sasperilla, but whatever it is it helps me be more creative.

My mom told me that Ernest Hemingway would do this to think of ideas. I have never read any stories of his but someday I will.

My favorite root beer is Captain Eli’s root beer because I have the same name. However, Henry Higgins root beer (it’s wicked fizzy) is the best for creating blog posts. I drank it when I wrote this blog post but I cant find it online. If you can’t get any of those though, A&W is my favorite go to root beer for every day writing.

If you take a break and get away from your iPad or computer, then you come back with fresh ideas  root beer does this for me pretty good.

So that is my list for how to get ideas for blog posts. I have a few more, but I decided that they will be in another post.

See, you dont have to put ALL your ideas in one post. If you have one idea for a blog post, you can make many blog posts out of that one and even make it into a series of posts!

I think I just gave you blog post idea number 10 🙂

Oh well, I hope this helps you. Please let me know of your ideas for how you think of blog posts below in the comment section.

And if this blog post has helped you, then please Share this blog post with your friends so they can think of blog posts too!

How to Write A Blog Post While RVing Full Time https://fulltimervfamily.com/how-to-write-a-blog-post-while-rving-full-time/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/how-to-write-a-blog-post-while-rving-full-time/#comments Tue, 16 Aug 2011 23:44:05 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=1367 blog post writing

Here I am writing in my ledger for a new blog post

Since we started living in an RV full time, I have written many blog posts about RVing full time.

Because I have been doing this for about two months, I thought it would be fun to show people how to do it.

So I am writing a blog post and I am teaching you how to write a blog post…which is kind of funny I think.

1. Think of a Good Idea

The first thing you need to do when writing a  blog post is to think of an idea for your blog post.

In the case of this blog post, I wanted other people to know how to write a blog post, so I wrote this one.

Another way to get ideas for blog posts are to write about things or experiences that are related to your website. Foods, sports, attractions, museums, and sites are all good blog post ideas.

For an example: the Grand Canyon is an attraction as is Busch Stadium.

Busch Stadium

When we went RVing to Busch Stadium I got a good idea for a blog post there

2. Write Your Ideas Down

After you decide what to write about, the second thing you need to do is get your ideas for your blog post down on paper or in your computer.

In my case I use my Mom or Dad’s iPad and go to the app called “Notes”.

Using the Apple iPad is very helpful because I can blog while we are driving somewhere, then upload it to our blog when we get to the RV camp site. If I wrote it on paper, it would take a longer time.

When you are full time RVing you have to save time!

3. Re-arrange Your Ideas Into An Outline

An outline is like the skeleton of a building.

when you are building a building, you have to put all the metal beams in place first, which is your outline.  Then you put all the metal plates over the beams which is the details of the story.

The building would fall down without the skeleton. That is your outline.

You can structure your outline by numbering it out or organizing it by letters.

4. Make up a Title For Your Blog Post

Now that you have your outline, read it and think of a title (also called a headline) of whatever it is about. Think of an headline that catches people’s attention.

Even though a lot of people say to make up your headline first, I sometimes have a hard time thinking of a good title. So I make up my headline after my outline.

A great headline for a blog post is “How to…” do something. People like to learn how to do stuff. People also like blog posts that are numbered lists.

We use both of these techniques in this blog post! 🙂

One of the best places to get headline ideas is at copyblogger.com . They have an awesome post on how to write a title called How To Write Magnetic Headlines by Brian Clark.

I think Brian Clark is smart and I want to write like him some day.

5. Fill In the Details

Then once you have your outline, you fill in the details to construct the story. This is like the walls, electrical system, pipes, toiletries that you put in a building.

6. Edit Your Mistakes

Once all your details are in, you look for mistakes and edit them out. This is my least favorite part writing blog posts when RVing full time, but it has to be done.

There’s no spell check in Notes on the iPad , which kind of stinks, but Dad tells me that it just makes we work harder.

7.  Send The Notes to Yourself

Then you email your  notes from your iPad to yourself:

email_to_yourself

I emailed my notes to myself so I can then upload them onto our website!

7. Upload The Post to Your Website

You then copy and paste your blog post from your email and upload it onto your website. We use WordPress for our website because it is easy to use and you don’t need to be a computer whiz to use it.

Plus its free!

blog_upload

Upload your emailed blog oost in the "Word Uploader" in wordpress

8. Add in Images

After you upload the blog post, then you add in photos, videos or images to your blog post to make it more interestng for peole to read.

upload_images

Use the image button to upload pictures from your computer

9. Re-read Your Blog Post

The second to last step is to re-read your post and make sure everything is all set. Make sure you spell “RVing full time” right…I always get that one wrong!

This is where Mom and Dad should probably help with grammar and stuff like that.

10. Publish!

After you re-read it once again, then you publish the blog post and you’re done!

publish_blog_post

Hit the Publish button and you're done!

So that is how you write a blog post when RVing full time!

Tell me what you think, was this blog post on blog posting helpful?

Please hit the Facebook “Share” button (to the left of this post) and share this with your friends so more people can learn how to blog!

My Worst Day Full Time RVing…But The Best Night https://fulltimervfamily.com/my-worst-day-full-time-rving-but-the-best-night/ https://fulltimervfamily.com/my-worst-day-full-time-rving-but-the-best-night/#comments Tue, 09 Aug 2011 07:00:17 +0000 http://fulltimervfamily.com/?p=1274 bad-hair-day

My day RVing was bad...but maybe not as bad as this kid

I had the worst day so far RVing full time.

The Morning

First thing in the morning the toilet flooded. Somehow toilet paper got stuck in the toilet and it overflowed all over the floor and into my room too!

I know it sounds funny but it is not! Dad was very upset and we had to squeeze the water out of the carpet with all the clean towels. It was not fun!

Then, me and Alex also got into an argument about something. And its not pretty when we argue! I was very upset.

The Afternoon

Then Mom, Alex and I went to Jewel Cave and it was closed!

Meanwhile, Dad was back at the RV working and it started to rain really hard. Then there was a huge flood in the kitchen because the rain was coming down sideways. Dad had to plug the hole in the side of the RV.

It took him an hour to fix it…

After that we went to Wind Cave and had to rush through the tour so we could get to the Allen Ranch in time for our overnight camping with some friends we met while RVing full time.

We had arranged to go horseback riding through a canyon and then to camp out under the stars over night at a real ranch.  We were so excited for this camp out!

When we went got to the ranch, it was raining, lightning and hailing so hard that the horseback riding (and the camp out) was canceled!

I didn’t like it and we all felt terribly disappointed.

Dad had a bad day too because when you live in an RV full time, you have to work really fast because you’re not sure when you’ll get another chance with all us kids around.

So when us kids came home, he was sad too. I know he missed us but he was trying to work and that didn’t happen as soon as we got home.

Night And The Full Time RV Turn Aroud!

However, on the drive  home we saw eight huge rainbows. This is just one of them:

The rainbow we saw in front of the Crazy Horse Memorial..can you see the memorial?

It was then that we decided that we would go food shopping, get a great dinner (steak – my favorite!) for a cook out  and make lemonade out of lemons!

When we got finally got home with all the fixings for a great dinner,  I started to cry because I felt bad because I missed home (friends please ask).

sad

Knowing that I felt badly, my brother Alex built an awesome tent in our room as well as he built an awesome Beyblade kit just for me!  It was so comfortable in the tent, thanks Alex!

I even read the Vipers Nest (39clues) on our Kindle.

Then Alex and I made a campfire and cooked dinner. We even made campfire potatoes and asparagus which were delicious.

Its nice to know that when I have a bad day, I am lucky to have a family to cheer me up!

Me and Alex in Chicago cooling off...he's a pretty cool brother too!

Please comment and let me what you have done to turn around a bad day? I am sure you have had bad days like me, what did you do?

Please comment below and “Share” this post on Facebook so others can see it too!
