For sure. Watch out in Canada with ATT and Verizon, they will really take you for a ride if youre mot careful. Myfi is great, but its one of 3 or 4 methods we use – the signal is better on some laptops versus others – no rhyme or reason to it. Always good to have multiple backups. Thanks for the comment!

I have Verizon (4G phone and USB wireless connection) and have been happy with them. I do remember my shock at the bill when I spent some time in Canada, however.

Coverage on the east coast is great and we have not had any issues at all. Out west, especially in the wide open areas, we had were roaming quite a bit, but almost always seemed to have voice coverage. Except in National Parks.

I looked at an iPhone and a mifi, but opted for an Android phone due to the ability to tether. ATT and Verizon do not permit tethering but Sprint has no stated position. You are able to use the phone as a hotspot but it costs extra. When we have 3G coverage and 4 or 5 bars, data speeds are good, and with 4G coverage, it is as fast as wifi.

Sprint lets you add phone service in Canada service for a few dollars a month and lets you prorate. Calls are about 25 cents a minute. We turned data service off and looked for wifi.

Hey John thanks for the tip. Yikes on Sprint, we have used Verizon and have been really happy with none of those nasty roaming data charges…although when we went to Canada, much different story, Verizon really stuck it to us on the data roaming which was tough to take. Data roaming issues aside, how is the coverage with Sprint?

We have been connecting by tethering Android phones from Sprint. They have “unlimited” data and good roaming partnerships, but there are still some hiccups. Also, this setup works for us as we have one laptop, not two.
