There were lots things I loved about RVing full time in California.
Because the state is so big, when you RV full time in California, there is so much to see.
But my brother Eli and I liked San Francisco the best, because we stayed there the longest. What made it the most fun is that we had our cousins there.
When you RV full time, you get to see many neat things and learn a lot of things that you never knew about before. And sometimes you just have FUN!
In this full time RVing post, Eli and I tell you about some of our favorite things about RVing full time in Cali!
1. Seeing Our Cousins Cobalt and Cypris (known as Cy Cy)
We went of lots of cool places like the aquarium in Golden Gate Park.
At their house, Eli played Legos with Cobalt and Alex chased Cy Cy around.
2. The Big Sleepover at Cobalt and Cypris’ House
In the morning at about six o’ clock Cypris woke up and started crying and Alex tried to put her back to sleep. But she kicked him in the crotch! Ouch! He then put her in the bed he was sleeping in and she was fine.
3. Going to Ghirardelli Chocolate
We went with our cousins to get sundaes and they were good!
Eli almost ate his whole sundae! Believe me it tasted good. It had hot fudge, whipped cream, and a chocolate waffle cone.
4. Playing Baseball with Alex’s Buddies at Baseball Field in The Marina
Alex met a bunch of kids on a base ball field. He ended up being very good friends with them.
5. Taking science classes at the Exploratorium with Ken and Cassie
Ken and Cassie were great teachers, they were fun too! Cassie was project-based and Ken was just trying to make it fun.
We learned a lot from Ken and Cassie at the Exploratorium, it is a must see for all kids (and adults too)!
6. Building Legos at Cobalt’s house and Making New Creations
Eli made at least three Lego bases. They all looked awesome!
7. Having sodas at the Top of The Mark
Root beer for Alex and seven up with sweet and sour for Eli. The soda was really good, but they had a very long line. Plus to just get a table, you had to wait 30 minutes.
Once we got in, we pretended we were James Bond…that was fun.
8. Walking Across the Golden Gate Bridge
Wow, I remember that long 10 mile walk! We did it with our cousins. It was the longest walk that I ever walked!
9. The Alcatraz Tour When RVing
My mom thought the Alcatraz was scary, but I thought it was interesting and cool!
I enjoyed the boat ride out too…it was as fun as RVing.
10. Lego Robotics and Lego Engineering Classes
They were extremely cool. You got to make your own robot.
11. Going to the Monterrey Aquarium with Ridge and Maren
Ridge and Maren are our new friends and the aquarium was awesome!!
12. The Epic Sock War on Alex’s Birthday
We had a sock war and our cousin cobalt cried because he got hit in the head by a sock! Sorry Cobalt, but that WAS funny!!!
13. Super Duper Burgers on Chestnut Street
The burgers at Super Duper Burger were awesome and the pickles were homemade and awesome!!!!!!!!
14. Getting Frozen Yogurt at Yogorino on Chestnut Street
They were right, Yogorino is the best yogurt! 101% good yogurt they said.
15. Delicious BLTs at Fresh Bay Cafe
These were the best BLT’s in the world.
16. The Pool War in St. Helena
We went to a big castle in St. Helena…
But the epic pool war we had with Oliver was the best. We threw plastic bags with water in them at each other. Oliver’s dad Tom played whiffle ball with us while my mom and dad went to a winery. We had fun at Tom, Shirley and Oliver’s house, they were very nice to us.
17. The Best Fish Ever at Fog City Diner
Even though it was only made with Bay Seasoning, it was awesome!
18. Riding The San Francisco Cable Car
The cable cars were very helpful because they got people up big hills. I liked that you could jump on and off.
19. Art Class With Cousin Kyle

Kyle was an awesome art teacher! Here she is before our epic walk over the Golden Gate Bridge with Cy
The lessons she gave us were very good – we got to paint and draw. Plus, Kyle was very good at art.
Well, that is our list of the best things we did in San Francisco when we were RVing full time. When you go RVing, make sure you go to San Francisco, its the best city (next to Boston of course)!

Wow, guys, this was so interesting! It felt like I was going from place to place with you. I think you summed up some really interesting hightlights. Can’t wait to show your post to Ted and Tommy.
Thank you Krisztina, we had alot of fun writing it, even though my mom and dad kept bugging us to do it! We miss San Francisco, it was fun. You Ted, Tommy and Eric should go and see all that stuff there! Alex
We loved hosting you guys so so much and had so many awesome adventures! Cobalt remembers something warm and fuzzy about your visit almost every day and he is really looking forward to seeing you guys again soon. Cy Cy is getting bigger every day and trying so hard to talk. She runs fast, loves cheese, and copies her brother all the time. We hope we can skype with you guys soon. Cobalt is on spring break this week, so we are having some fun adventures, though we wish you were still here to share with!!!
So do we! Cant wait to see Cy Cy and how big she is! Lets Skype soon – hi to the whole family!
Looks like you guys had such a fantastic time in the golden state!
Yes we did! We love California….want ot live there someday. Oh well, maybe next road trip! 🙂
I have only been to California one time and when I did go for football camp, I stayed only a week and saw only LAX airport and the University of California, where the camp was held. Despite my limited experience on the west coast, I have seen the vast mountain and forrest terrain in countless movies. I have no doubt this region is great for driving an RV, like that film with Robin Williams (“RV).
Hah! We watched “RV” as the last training movie before we took off last June…great stuff. Especially when the sewer hose explodes. Been there unfortunately 😉
How can you afford to RV full time? This is something that my aunt and uncle did for awhile but they had to sell their homes and cars and everything in order to do it. This is something I can understand doing if you are retired or you are at least retirement age but to do this as a family when the kids should be in school is something different.
Good question. My wife and I both work from home and have our own businesses. Mine is an nternet search engine optimizatin company http://www.antaresent.com and she runs a highly successful satellite services company.
All we need are our iphones, ipads and laptops and the office is anywhere! Thanks
Oh yeah, we homeschool the kids too. But traveling is a full time education for them….
If you, like so many millions of Americans, don’t know what it is you want sufficiently to name as your primary goal, I recommend you make out a “want list. Take a notepad, go off by yourself, and write down the things you would really like to have or to do. Your list might include a beautiful new home, or a trip around the world, or a visit to some special country or place. You might even be yearning for an outdoor excursion in an RV.
hi Donald, that’s exactly what we did – make goals, create a bucket list of sorts as a group at the kitchen table one night. That was the seminal event and our first full-time RV experience, a decision made by the family for the family. Thanks so much for your comment!
RVing full time is a life style right? Is this really the best thing to do with young children or should it really be something that you do as a retired couple? I know that the places you can go and the things that you can see would be very educational but still what about learning social skills around other kids? That is the problem I have always had with home school as well.
We think its a great way to see the country and homeschool. They still see tons of kids (believe it or not) and the homeschool isolation can be an issue. But verall, the experience is an amazing one, if not amazingly educational. Thanks for the comment.
This article drives’ home the point that the RV lifestyle is all about family togetherness, healthy relaxation, easy convenience and old-fashioned fun. It’s those all-American values that prompted Barack Obama to tell MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough in an interview last August, “As soon as this convention is over we are loading up our kids in an RV. We are traveling around to county fairs, eating ice cream and taking our two girls to the swimming pool.
Didnt see that about Obama! Great point, its all the above as you say…as well as it being a cool adventure and a great way to see all the mains streets and backroads of the US. I recommend it to anyone. Thanks for your comment!
